3DS Down Price, CEO of Nintendo Apologizes
3DS come down in price, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata apologized to 3DS owners who bought the device before the price cuts of more than USD100, last week.
As reported earlier, Nintendo decided to cut 3DS from USD250 to USD170. That is, the first buyer 3DS must pay 40 percent more expensive than the new rate went into effect on August 12.
“In the past, there is a price reduction for the video game device for some time after the release in order to increase the number of users. But, Nintendo has never been instructed to such a drastic price cut in less than 6 months after the device was released,” wrote Iwata on site Nintendo’s official.
Iwata confirmed that the price cuts were needed to convince the creators of the software and retail are less confident that the 3DS able to match their previous popularity of handheld consoles, the Nintendo DS.
“We are very aware that you are buying at the initial launch 3DS may feel betrayed and criticized this policy,” Iwata added.
“The consumers who first purchase is very important for Nintendo 3DS. We know there is nothing we can do to you who feel as if being punished for buying the console earlier,” he concluded.
In an effort to make amends, Nintendo said 20 games will be presented free of charge to consumers who bought 3DS before the new prices set by logging in at eShop 3DS.
