No patient experienced serious side effects as a result of selenium supplementation.

However, the safety of selenium has not been studied and the authors said the findings were not significant enough to recommend this type of mineral supplementation. The researchers also stated that these results can not always apply to Americans, because of differences in foods and dietary patterns of each country.
